I think “news” is a mass noun. Could be treated as singular or plural, depending on context.

“The news is that the Nightdreamer is cool.”

That’s singular.

“We bring news that matter.”

“News” in the second sentence is plural, hence “matter” did not come with an “s”, becase they bring not just one news, but many news.
